this tutorial will not teach anybody how to use flash! it will only tell them what code to put where for it to work, not how to actually do it! also, there are many much easier ways to do what you did without making so many frames! in fact, a large majority of what you did with the killbar and frames in the health bar can all be done with code--no extra frames needed!!
the tutorial does an excellent job explaining the really obvious things (like selecting and pressing F8) but it never talks about the most important part of the whole thing, the code!! People will never be good in flash if they just memmorize a block of code and where to put it for something to work, they must understand the code and know how it works!
One of the very few tutorials around that actually described how the code worked! bravo! Pictures were WAY PIXELATED though, and thats because you resize them... try making the image big, tracing it, and THEN resizing it... that should cut down on the pixelation
What about actionscript fading and the _alpha property? I know many people that would benefit from learning that. ALSO: PUT A DAMN SQUARE IN THE HIT FRAME OF YOUR BUTTONS!! that way your buttons wont be so hard to click!
This tutorial had all the problems that so many other tutorials have. YOU DIDNT EXPLAIN WHAT THE ACTIONS MEAN!! all you said was "put this code in and it will work" many people want to know WHY it works!! As they say give a man a fish and it will feed them for a day, teach a man to fish and it will feed him for the rest of his life!
It was great how you explained in detail what every part of the replay button code did but why didn't you do the same thing for the character walking? Many people would benefit from that. A lot of your text boxes had text that only paritally appeared. You probably know why this happens, but make sure your text box has a square in its corner rather than a circle when you make it. That way flash won't extend the box to fit the words. OH AND when I went backwards after it turned my mouse into your cursor, the mouse was invisible. Make sure that you have some kind of movie clip that makes the mouse visible again after it leaves a certain frame number.
Couple of things
1)The reason your images look like that is because you resize them. Don't.
2) AGAIN WITH THE BLUE ON BLACK!?
3) there were no back buttons? what if someone wants to see the previous step again?
now all you need to make it even BETTER is
then it would be UBER
The idea is great but you gotta work on your game physics, man it really confused me when the marble started hopping around when it got to the walls and when it would sometimes stop one distance from the floor and then it would stop higher.. when you code the walls/floors, make sure to make it so the marble behaves the same no matter which side of the wall/floor it hits (bounces) that way, there wont be any more of this weird twitching. Another thing I noticed is the fact that the marble can move THROUGH the walls if you keep the right arrow pressed. Aside from these minor mishaps the game was pretty cool make another!
sorry, coding it that way is hard, the code tells it to stop at the same spot, but for some stupid reason, it always stops at somewhat different spots.
awesome dude, some uber coding! I would really like to know how you made this dude you rule!!
